Interview

Alison Berg of the Collectista recently stopped by to ask me a few questions , such fun, and the questions were good. Please enjoy.

WHAT IS YOUR PROCESS?

It’s a continuum really, an amalgamation of my professional and personal experiences. The process is fluid, ever-expanding and more identifiable on some days than others. The process is a coming together of my background as a decorative artist, my love of art history, my fascination with the female, and my bid to better comprehend her in all her beautiful complexities. The process is dialogue, the sharing of stories, a commitment to expansive thought. The process: my process, seeks out beauty in the most unsuspecting places, which is then incorporated into my work. I want you to feel your best self and I’d like to be a part of the process. It’s that simple really.

WHAT DO YOU COLLECT?
I collect that what leaves an impression — experiences. A couple of years ago whilst visiting Morocco, I spent a few days in the Sahara Desert. One morning on a trek we came upon a small family who invited us in their abode for refreshments. The wife was wearing perhaps the most exquisite earrings I had ever seen — blinding. I was in the most humble surroundings embraced by such generosity and genuine hospitality. When I am writing about beauty or seeking inspiration for my line, a collected database of such experiences exists serving as invaluable references — those earrings!

WHAT IS YOUR THEME SONG?
A theme song doesn’t exist but perhaps I may expand. Being from London I grew up surrounded my music as diverse as the city itself. Perhaps it may be a good idea to highlight the Djs I enjoy the most: Carl Cox, Nicole Moudaber, Gilles Peterson, and Mathieu Schreyer.

ARE YOU AN INTROVERT OR EXTROVERT?
In truth, I’m an introvert. I’m by no means anti-social but yes, I’m an introvert at heart.

WHO IS THE PERSON WHO INSPIRES YOU MOST?
Gosh, I felt inspired by the retired librarian I helped on the Metro the other day. I was in a private airport a few months ago and spotted Madame Clinton disembarking her airplane — inspired. Nelson Mandela, a lifelong awe-inspiring presence in my life. Then there are my friends who are fully engaged in life, who leap!!! I’m continually inspired.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE PHILANTHROPIC CAUSE?
The enhancement of young women.
