Ritual–And So To Bed

It’s an increasingly frequent dialogue I am having of late. The topic being the lack of consideration for one’s beauty regimen if indeed one exists at all. The concern predominantly stems from those outside of the realm of GEISHA as our customers generally subscribe to the importance of “Ritual” in beauty and wellbeing. Recently a friend and I spoke at length on this very subject as we exchanged ideas for how she might effectively guide her own audience on the subject of beauty/personal care.  Her notion was that most of her clients experience certain financial limitations that perhaps mine are … Continue reading Ritual–And So To Bed

Adorn

Fortunately I reside in perhaps the most culturally diverse area of Los Angeles. Everyone’s represented here living their varying cultured experiences, seldom overlapping yet considerately aware of one another’s presence. I am close with my neighbours a family from Bangladesh. When at their home I am introduced as a family friend, which is particularly heart warming being how I am invariably the only Westerner at their gatherings. In observance of their youngest son’s certain rite of passage a two hundred and fifty person celebration was held at a local pavilion. What a spectacular affair, with so much dancing, an abundance … Continue reading Adorn

The Latest Collections

And so another NYFW, London, Milan (I could go on) have come and gone.  I felt compelled to say something on the happenings and began research rather enthusiastically. I studied the latest offerings with genuine interest, and thought I was generally off to a good start. By the third day; however, procrastination had set in, and although I did research a couple of collections I felt my attention beginning to wane—the next day even more so. Between you and me I had completely lost all interest, leaving me with nothing to report. I suspect I was completely overwhelmed. By the … Continue reading The Latest Collections

Leaps and Bounds

I laughed when Janette informed me she had recently auditioned for the local Art Centre’s production of Alice and Wonderland. “The poster said “all ages, so that includes fat, weathered Has-Beens like me—ok,” she blurted out on our bus ride home. “I have nothing right now. Nothing that brings me any joy Bali, not a single thing. It’s rained the entire summer. I haven’t had sex in over a year and I’ve gained three pounds in the last seven days alone. I’m miserable alright, so do me a favour and give it a rest won’t you?” “Well have you been … Continue reading Leaps and Bounds

Long Love A$AP

I’m not writing about anything new here. We are all familiar with the phenomenon A$AP. The fact is I’m, captivated by the crew. I’ll gladly tune out NPR at a moments notice in preference to their sound. In the afternoon when I should be focusing on my work I’m undoubtedly blasting them. Such energy, such abandon. “I’m young,” A$AP Rocky will say and I champion the sentiment. It’s a remark made more often than not as an excuse of sorts for what some might deem questionable behaviour and is invariably followed by a mischievous reference to his good looks. Then … Continue reading Long Love A$AP

I’ve been hit!

“Mum can you bring down the graffiti remover please,” I bellowed up to the back of the house where my mother was making us both morning coffee, “it’s in the cupboard to the left of the dishwasher–top shelf.” “Ok luv,” she called back. “Everything alright?” “No Mum. I was hit again last night.” It’s a silly situation really, one that I now realise would have best been left alone. Coming home late from a party one night I came upon three youths tagging the wall in front of my home. A less than enjoyable exchange ensued with threats made (from … Continue reading I’ve been hit!

In the afternoon

The summons came by way of a telephone call Tuesday morning. “Bali, Stephanie Mendleton here for Patricia Weybridge how are you? Ms Weybridge would like to invite you for afternoon tea Friday 7th at three thirty, Jonathans. May I make a confirmation with you? “Oh yes,” I replied “Excellent I look forward to it.” “Bali, just a note. Expect Patricia to be late; however, I suggest that you be specifically on time ok. Just a heads up that all.” I appreciated the “lookin’ out” and conveyed my gratitude to Stephanie before hanging up. Tea with Patricia: editor, maven, and renowned … Continue reading In the afternoon
